Artists draw honors at Wauconda festival

Awards were given by the Lake County Art League and the Friends of the Discovery Museum at the Art Discovery Fine Arts Festival on Aug. 18 in Wauconda.

The festival, which was partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, was held on the museum grounds and drew more than 30 artists.

Edmund Kanwischer, a nationally known painter and sculptor, judged the entries and assigned these awards.

Beverly Bonner won the Waukegan Mayor Richard Hyde Award for Best of Show, while the Friends of the Discovery Museum first-place award was given to Linda Kollacks.

Second place, sponsored by Waukegan Main Street, was won by Yvonne Pitts; Mary Neely was recipient of the Phoebe Boyd third-place award.

Three honorable mention awards were given: to Clark Bending, Alice Schank, and Ted Foss, courtesy of Cheap Joe's Art Stuff, the Family Piano Company of Waukegan and the Lakeside Inn Eatery and Tavern in Wauconda.
