Lisle: The Arboretum Village

Naperville may be "a great place to live," but Lisle Mayor Joseph Broda likes to say his village has something to show for its slogan "the arboretum village."

"It sticks in people's minds," Broda said. "We're very lucky to have (the Morton Arboretum) because a lot of communities don't have a brand to talk about."

Now that Village of Lisle "brand" will be seen the same throughout the village, board members voted Monday evening.

Marketing firm TDSM presented a new village logo that includes the tree represented in existing signage next to the word Lisle with the words "the arboretum village" below in all capital letters.

Leaders want to capitalize off the village's recent accolade by Money Magazine as the nation's 20th best place to live by attracting investors to the village's downtown renovations.

Marketing Director Robin Malpass called the current hodge-podge of logos representing the village "unprofessional" and recommended a consistent emblem for all village materials -- from stationery to the Web site to village signage.

Board members questioned how having the same logo everywhere draws businesses to Lisle.

"All of that speaks to the experience of what they'll find," Malpass said. "When you go to McDonald's, it's a very consistent experience. People take comfort in that consistency and people place value on that consistency."
