Churchill Elementary plans celebration to start school year

On Wednesday, Churchill Elementary School, 1520 N. Jones Road, Schaumburg, will participate in the First Day of School America Campaign. There will be an outdoor assembly from 9 to 10 a.m.

"This is a great way to involve families to help us celebrate the start of the school year. It is a positive experience for the community," said Craig Gaska, Churchill principal.

The event is designed to welcome parents into school from day one, encouraging year-round family involvement in education.

"Last year was Churchill's first year participating in the First Day celebration," said event chairwoman Jill Peterson. "By involving families as well as community members, we hope this year will be an even bigger celebration."

Parents and other interested family members are welcome to attend.
