Macy's run of bad luck is no surprise
Sales off at the downtown store. Salespersons' commissions being cut. Buyouts. Lake Forest store closing. Food court in violation of cleanliness. Jumper from a balcony.
Does anyone think Macy's is snake-bitten?
Macy's should step back and take a good look at its situation. The Martha Stewart gallery, a 100th anniversary celebration of the Fields clock and a Tiffany ceiling among other token appeasements are a faint attempt to lure shoppers back to the store. Why not admit a mistake?
Why not go all the way and just change the name back to Marshall Fields? I believe shoppers would return then.
If that doesn't work, just slouch back to the Big Apple after coming here and destroying a Chicago icon.
