Police Beat - Mount Prospect man arrested for property damage

•Christopher C. Strandberg, 47, 1420 S. Busse Road, Apt. 2L, Mount Prospect, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Aug. 8 and charged with criminal damage to property after he broke his neighbor's apartment door and window, police said. Damage was estimated at $475. His Rolling Meadows court date was set for Sept. 6.

•Vandals smashed a pane of glass next to an exit door Aug. 7 at an apartment building on the 700 block of Huntington Commons Road, police said. Damage was estimated at $500.

•Saul Labra, 20, 7301 Iris St., Hanover Park, was arrested around 4:55 a.m. Aug. 11 and charged with burglary after a witness saw him smash the front driver's-side window and steal the in-dash radio/CD player out of a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass parked in an apartment lot on the 2300 block of South Lexington Drive, police said. Officers saw him run out from behind bushes near the scene, and he was caught and arrested, reports said. His Rolling Meadows court date was set for Aug. 21.

•Daniel H. Chavez, 18, 107 E. Council Trail, Mount Prospect, was arrested around 7:20 p.m. Aug. 10 and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and production of marijuana plant after officers were called to his home on a neighbor's complaint of drug activity and found two drug pipes, a deseeder, and 18 small plastic bags in his bedroom and a potted marijuana plant in the back yard, police said. His Rolling Meadows court date was set for Sept. 18.

•Nicholas A Pecci, 17, 413 S. Elmhurst Road, Mount Prospect, was arrested around 6:15 p.m. Aug. 11 and charged with local ordinances possession of marijuana and minor in possession of tobacco products after officers saw him smoking a cigarette at Man A Wa Trail and Na Wa Ta Avenue and found marijuana in his pants pockets, police said. His court date was not available.

•Vandals hurled a smoke bomb around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 9 that charred sections of the kitchen floor at Lions Park School, 300 E. Council Trail, police said. According to reports, workers left the kitchen door propped open when they left for the day. Damage was estimated at $100.

•Burglars smashed a 5-foot by 3-foot office window between midnight and 8:30 a.m. Aug. 12 and stole two laptop computers from Cardone Record Services, 1960 W. Algonquin Road, police said. Damage and value were estimated at $3,100.

•Alfredo E. Cruz, 18, 145 E. Anita Ave., Mount Prospect, was arrested around 3:40 a.m. Aug. 3 and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after an officer stopped his car for traffic violations on the 1100 block of Sycamore Lane and found marijuana and a drug pipe in his pockets, police said. His Rolling Meadows court date was set for Aug. 27.

Prospect Heights

•Vandals hurled a small chemical bomb overnight Aug. 11-12 that burned grass in a front yard at a home on the 300 block of West Kenilworth Avenue, police said. A damage estimate was not available.

•Vandals punctured four tires and scratched the tailgate and rear passenger's-side quarter panel between 9:40 p.m. Aug. 11 and 8 a.m. Aug. 12 on a 2001 Ford Expedition parked in an apartment lot on the 600 block of Piper Lane, police said. A damage estimate was not available.

•Vandals threw eggs between 11 p.m. Aug. 10 and 8 a.m. Aug. 11 that broke a window at a home on the 300 block of Gail Court North, police said. A damage estimate was not available.

•Burglars ransacked a 1995 Mazda 626 and a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck overnight Aug. 1-2 at two homes on the 1200 block of Center Lane, but nothing appeared to be missing, police said.

•Vandals slashed two driver's-side tires between 10 p.m. Aug. 5 and 7 a.m. Aug. 6 on a 2003 Nissan Sentra parked in a condominium lot on the 900 block of East Old Willow Road, police said. A damage estimate was not available.
