District 202, teachers could have contract within a week
Lisle school administrators say they'll likely reach a formal three-year contract agreement with the district's teachers union sometime early next week.
The Unit District 202 school board meets Monday evening, but it's unclear whether members will approve the contract that night, Superintendent Peter Lueck said.
"We are in the final stages and teachers have not yet ratified (the agreement)," he said Thursday. "We're optimistic."
Negotiations began in November with the Lisle Education Association, which represents the district's 120 full-time teachers.
District 202 serves about 1,700 students in one high school, one junior high and two elementary buildings.
Lueck characterized the negotiations as "going smoothly."
Details of the talks won't be released until after the board approves the contract, he said.
The new pact will not encompass support staff members, who will negotiate their own contract next spring.
Students will return to the classroom Wednesday.
If the contract is not ready for approval at Monday's board meeting, it won't jeopardize the start of the school, Lueck said.
