Three injured in collision

Three people were hurt in a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon at Route 47 and Keslinger Road in Elburn, officials said.

Police identified the injured as Robert Wilson, 51; Sharon Dolby-Beck, 42; and Michael Zepeda, 49.

The three were taken to Geneva and Aurora hospitals, but their conditions were not immediately available Wednesday.

They all were riding in a Volkswagen Jetta being driven by Wilson about 2 p.m. when it was hit by a Cadillac STS driven by Stephen Hopkins, 56, of Batavia, police said.

The impact caused the Jetta to roll onto its right side, trapping Dolby-Beck and Zepeda inside until firefighters cut off the car's roof.

Hopkins was not hurt.

Elburn police are investigating the crash and charges might be filed, according to a news release.

The accident happened about nine hours after Route 38 reopened to traffic from an earlier accident, which shut down the thoroughfare from Tuesday night into early Wednesday.

In that crash, Armando Martinez, 31, of 115 Walnut Drive, St. Charles, crossed the center line on Route 38 near Bowgren Road in Campton Township and hit a semi-trailer truck at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

The driver of the semi, Anthony Rojas, 41, of Bridgeview, tried to avoid the vehicle but was unable to, according to the Kane County sheriff's office.

An Illinois State Police truck inspector was called to the scene because of a diesel fuel leak. The road was closed from LaFox to Pouley roads until 5:15 a.m. Wednesday to clean the spill.

Martinez was charged with DUI, no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to the sheriff's department.

Martinez was taken to Delnor-Community Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Rojas was uninjured.
