Cooler than normal July:

Statewide July temperatures averaged 2.3 degrees below normal, making it the 20th coolest since 1895, according to State Climatologist Jim Angel. Most Illinois locations reported fewer 90-degree days in July than usual, avoiding the heat wave experienced in the Western U.S., he added. Rainfall in July varied greatly, with areas north of I-80 receiving 5 inches or more, including 12.6 inches in Elburn in Kane County. Statewide rain totals were slightly below normal. The August to October outlook by the National Weather Service calls for an increased chance for above normal temperatures, Angel reported.
