Politicians, D and R, to blame for fix

Froma Harrop's recent column regarding the "end of empire spectacle" currently being unveiled in the U.S. (July 25) was right on point for the first two and a-half columns before the obligatory Bush bashing began.

What Ms. Harrop fails to mention is that President Clinton signed NAFTA into law and we continuously see Democratic, not Republican, politicians supporting organized labor.

Both parties are to blame for our current mess. Corruption on both national and state levels is barely kept out of the open and no action is taken when it's discovered.

We have congresswomen whose husbands kite checks, a state Senate president who provides paychecks to his entire family, a president who is from the oil industry and lets them rake in record profits at our expense, and the list goes on.

Nepostism is rampant as are favors and contributions by special interests.

The only way to turn this country around is for all taxpayers to stand up and say enough is enough -- it cannot be politics and business as usual, as my state representative recently wrote me here.

The leaders must rise to the surface and take charge, or we and our descendants are in deep trouble.
