Golden moment

Lisa Wang of Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High School captured a gold medal Friday in rhythmic gymnastics at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Wang took the individual all-around title with a score of 57.725, almost 3 points ahead of her closest competitor from Mexico. Julie Zetlin of the U.S. finished in fourth place. Wang, 18, finished first in all four events - hoop, rope, clubs and ribbon.

•Jorge Torres, a former cross country star for Wheeling High School, finished fourth in the 10,000 meters finals Friday at the Pan American Games. Jose David Galvan of Mexico finished first with a time of 28:08.74. Torres, a former national champion runner at the University of Colorado, finished in 28:28:48, about 18.6 seconds behind the bronze medalist.
