House OKs road funding:

The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday approved $250,000 in funding for the extension of Algonquin Road. The project will extend Algonquin Road west from Route 47 and across Marengo Road until it connects to Harmony Road at Brier Hill Road. The funding still needs the approval of the U.S. Senate and the signature of President Bush. Congressman Don Manzullo said he would work with U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Barack Obama to ensure the funding remains in the appropriations bill throughout the process.

Elgin fire chief offered job: The Bartlett Fire Protection District has officially put an offer out to Elgin Fire Chief Mike Falese for its assistant fire chief job. The offer was unanimously approved by the Bartlett fire board's five trustees at a special meeting Wednesday. The vote followed an hourlong, behind-closed-doors discussion, Trustee James McCarthy said. Falese, a 24-year veteran of the Elgin fire department, turned in a letter last week announcing his retirement from the city of Elgin. He hasn't discussed where his next job might be, though Bartlett officials had confirmed he was their choice for the assistant chief post. The terms of the offer were not released, nor it is clear if Falese has been given a deadline to respond to the offer. He was unavailable for comment.

The home's design will serve as a prototype to be replicated on future sites throughout the Northern Fox Valley. The first crop of Judson student-designed Habitat houses are now homes to five families living on Owasco Street, just south of Judson's campus.
