Man held on bond in home attack

He did not know whose bedroom window he smashed or whose head he hit.

It didn't matter to him, officials said Monday, when an Arlington Heights man accused of a violent burglary attempt gone awry appeared in the Rolling Meadows courthouse.

Isaias Toga, 21, of 1115 W. Algonquin Road, allegedly broke into a Mount Prospect apartment early Saturday morning, pushed the startled woman inside to the floor and hit her repeatedly, Cook County Assistant State's Atty. Scott Biestek said.

Cook County Judge Kay Hanlon ordered Toga held on $150,000 bond. The bond requires Toga to post $15,000 to be released from jail as his case advances through the legal system.

Toga faces a felony charge of home invasion.

The trouble began around 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

Toga allegedly entered through the bedroom window of an apartment along the 2000 block of W. Algonquin Road. A 27-year-old woman awoke to find Toga standing over her, according to police reports.

Startled, the woman screamed. Toga threatened to tie her up and "struck her several times in the face with his fist," Biestek said.

Toga fled the apartment through the bedroom window. He later was arrested when police determined he matched the description provided by the victim.

Biestek said Toga later told police he was scared someone would hear the woman when she screamed.

The woman was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights where she was treated and released for minor injuries.

A public defense attorney described Toga as a restaurant worker who supports a child.

Toga is next scheduled to appear in court Aug. 20.
