Doctor receives fellowship

Barrington native Dr. Andrew Foy was selected as one of eight recipients of a 2007 research fellowship established by the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, which provides training to neurosurgeons who are preparing for academic careers as clinician investigators.

Foy is a 1999 graduate of Marquette University and a 2003 graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is currently a fourth-year neurosurgical resident at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

The award enables Foy to pursue advanced research on the development of pediatric medulloblastoma.

•With an extensive background as a commercial lender, Rebecca Loughlin of Rolling Meadows was appointed vice president, commercial banking at Leaders Bank, Oak Brook, to develop and manage commercial relationships with privately-held businesses, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals. Loughlin also serves as a board member for Rebuilding Together, Northwest Suburban, NFP, a volunteer organization that preserves and revitalizes low-income homes and communities.

• Competing against players in the 18- to 22-year-old girls division, Jessica Lang, 20, of Mount Prospect took first-place honors in the Country Insurance & Financial Services putting contest held during the 2007 COUNTRY Youth Classic June 25. Lang is the daughter of Steve and Marie Lang of Mount Prospect.

•The North Suburban Library System board of directors issued a proclamation in June recognizing Jackie Hinaber's service to the board and her advocacy for public libraries.

Hinaber, who has been a trustee for the Mount Prospect Public Library since 1987, has just concluded a six-year term as a North Suburban Library System board member. During her tenure on the board, she held various leadership roles including board president, vice president and secretary. She also played an integral role in a number of board initiatives, including the establishment of the Library Partnership Trust, MyMediaMall and netLibrary consortia.

•Arlington Heights sculptor Joseph Burlini recently accepted the award in art from the Arab-American Business & Professional Association, Long Grove, during a dinner at the Chicago Hilton and Towers.

Association members selected six professionals in the Chicago area to recognize and Burlini was the only artist.

•Adam Majewski of Inverness, a 2004 William Fremd High School graduate, wrote and presented a review of the movie "Transformers" July 3 on WGN TV Channel 9 Morning News.

Majewski, the son of Margaret and Doug Jayes, works as an intern at the station. He is a senior at Columbia College, Chicago.
