Dixon Jr., who died Saturday at age 68 after a five-year battle with esophageal cancer. “He treated everyone he met with kindness and respect and he always stood up for his friends,” DuPage County Board member Jim Healy wrote in a message to Dixon's family.

    A batch of 500 cookies were auctioned off at a stunning $75,000 to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee Township. “They are that good,” said Tom Roeser of Otto Engineering, who made the winning bid. But anyone who knows Roeser also knows it’s all about the businessman’s commitment to the betterment of local youth, says baker Barbara Ferguson. “It’s just wonderful what he did,” she said.

    Aurora Township will offer transportation to Sugar Grove Township's senior citizens and disabled population in a new partnership designed to help those residents get to medical appointments. Aurora Township already offers about 30,000 rides through its service each year. But helping Sugar Grove will put idle buses and drivers back on the roads, which will also be a benefit to Aurora Township.

    Campton Hills Village President Patsy Smith on Tuesday outlined her case as to why she wants the village’s police chief dismissed when his contract expires later this month. “After careful consideration, I believe it is no longer in the village’s best interest to continue his appointment,” Smith wrote in a memo Tuesday to trustees. Trustees talked all Tuesday night and looked to continue past midnight to discuss Hoffman’s contract and other issues.

    A settlement deal that promises backloaded assessment reductions for Medinah Country Club this year through 2016 could wind up meaning higher taxes for neighboring property owners over the next three years. But officials who negotiated the deal argue the 17 government agencies that receive property taxes from the golf club potentially saved the same taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in future legal bills by settling.

    A Campton Hills electoral board set rules and procedures Tueday night for a challenge to the nominating petitions of Harry Blecker, who is running for village president, and three people running for trustee. Village President Patsy Smith challenged the petitions. The board will met Friday to set a date to hear testimony and consider evidence and legal arguments. The earliest that can happen is after Dec. 19, when attorneys are done submitting legal papers.

    Antioch village and fire officials again will ask voters to approve a tax to raise $1.5 million per year to fund ambulance service. The question failed last month and in response the department this week reduced staffing. "We only asked for what was necessary that's why the question is the same," said Fire Chief John Nixon.

    Hanover Township and Kid Care Medical will host clinics where kids can get flu shots and immunizations starting Thursday in the township’s Senior Center in Bartlett. “The best way to protect yourself and others around you from getting and spreading the flu is to get the influenza vaccine,” township Trustee Steve Caramelli said.
