Learn about stopping scams:

A representative from Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office will talk about stopping scams and identity theft prevention in Des Plaines on June 2. The discussion is set for 7 p.m. at Rosemary S. Argus Friendship Park and Conservatory, 395 W. Algonquin Road. Geared toward senior citizens, it’ll be part of an 8th Ward meeting organized by Alderman Mike Charewicz. The session is free to attend and open to the public.

Farmers market in Libertyville:

MainStreet Libertyville's annual farmers market will open for the season Thursday, May 26. Celebrating its 46th year of operation, the market is held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays (except June 18) through Oct. 15 in Cook Park on Milwaukee Avenue and West Church Street. Free craft kids available at library:

Free craft kits for adults will be available June 1 at the Fremont Public Library, located at 1170 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein. Kits can be picked up at the help desk on the first floor. They’re available on the first day of every month, while supplies last. Registration isn’t required. Kits are limited to two per person. Sign up to join July 4 parade:

The village of Hoffman Estates is inviting community groups, service organizations, teams, entertainers, elected officials and others to march in its Fourth of July Parade. The parade steps off at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 4, along Illinois Boulevard between Paris Land and Evanston Street. This year’s parade theme is “Celebrating 250 Years, From Sea to Shining Sea.” The deadline to register to participate in the parade is June 1. Township to host recycle event:

Clean out your home and safely dispose of unwanted items at the Wayne Township Recycle & Shred Event on Saturday, May 30. Bring your electronics, televisions, large batteries, exercise equipment, metal and more. Some electronics require a disposal fee. They are also collecting textiles, including reusable or unusable clothing, shoes, belts, purses, towels, sheets, rags and more. Safe on-site document shredding will be offered; personal documents only — no business documents. It will be 9 to 11 a.m. at Wayne Township office, 27W031 North Ave., West Chicago.
