    Volunteers from the Hanover Township Emergency Services Unit responded to a request Sunday from Will County to assist with lighting and scene security in the Diamond and Coal City, Ill., area after a tornado caused destruction there. “We were very surprised we were contacted (Sunday),” he said. “But everyone was ready to go.”

    Hanover Township is hosting a wellness clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Victory Centre, 1101 W. Bartlett Road in Bartlett. A Hanover Township nurse will be performing screenings and answering questions in the lower level community room. Screenings include blood glucose, hemoglobin, blood pressure and heart rate.

  • New restrooms coming to some Cook County forest preserves Nov 5, 2013 12:00 AM
    Installation has begun on the first of 10 new permanent toilet buildings for the Forest Preserves of Cook County. The restroom at the Bremen Grove Forest Preserve in south suburban Oak Forest is expected to open in mid-November. The remaining nine facilities will be installed in spring 2014.

  • Elgin church will give coffee for cans Oct 3, 2013 12:00 AM
    The “Coffee for Cans” food drive takes place 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Elgin Bible Church, 1580 E. Chicago St. The goal is to fill a semitrailer with canned goods that will be donated to Hanover Township’s food pantry, said church Pastor Rev. Timothy Beam. The event is part of the church’s annual charitable drive, but it’s the first that involves the larger community. “Our goal in this thing is to engage the community to help itself. I don’t want this to be about Elgin Bible Church at all," he said.

    Hanover Township dedicated a fifth heritage marker at a historical site in the township this week. The new sign was installed Wednesday at Villa Olivia, a golf course and ski facility at 1401 W. Lake Street in Bartlett, to commemorate the Leatherman farm that once existed on the property.

    The Hanover Township Food Pantry is hosting an Oktoberfest fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Bartlett Fire Barn, 218 S. Main St. in Bartlett. There will be raffles and German food throughout the event and live German music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

    Lacy Park, located at 735 Stowel Ave. in Streamwood, has a new owner. At a meeting Tuesday night, the Hanover Township board of trustees voted to accept transfer of the park from the Streamwood Park District. “The addition of this property will be beneficial for the township’s youth activities while still serving the neighborhood,” said Howard K. Krick, a Hanover Township trustee.

Route 59, Bartlett. The event is free and open to the public.
