  • Despite lukewarm reviews of last year’s show, Hoffman Estates officials moved closer Monday to awarding the fireworks contract for this year’s Northwest Fourth Fest to the same company. In recognition of last year’s failures, the company is promising the village a $45,000 show for $39,000 this year.

    Despite one village trustee's push to re-examine four fireworks bids for this year's Northwest Fourth Fest, the village board's Finance Committee moved forward Monday with a plan to award the contract to the same firm that put on last year's often criticized show. The contract, which will go to the village board for possible approval next week, would give the 30-minute show to Melrose Pyrotechnics, Inc.

    Despite a second discussion Monday, the Hoffman Estates village board couldn't decide which company to hire for this year's Northwest Fourth Fest fireworks show. The board was asked to award a $39,000 contract to Melrose Pyrotechnics Inc. for a 30-minute fireworks show at the festival. But too many unanswered questions resulted in the matter being sent back to a committee.

Board members expressed concerns about the number of shells that each of the four bidders proposed to fire off at the festival. “I've heard nothing but grief about (last year's show),” one trustee said.

    Hanover Township, in partnership with CVS in Bartlett, is offering a free service for residents with medication questions. The "Ask a Pharmacist" program allows residents to bring pill bottles or a list of medications to the pharmacist to learn more about their prescriptions and look for any interactions. This service will be available at the Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, in Bartlett, from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Friday of every month.
