Gun violence prevention groups from the greater Chicagoland area joined with Northwest Suburbs Organizing for Action (NWSOFA) to honor those victims and 4,800 other Americans murdered since the Newtown massacre, while Congress has failed to enact commonsense measures to reduce gun violence that are supported by 90% of the American people.

  • Elk Grove to host Document Destruction and Electronics Recycling event June 22 Jun 18, 2013 12:00 AM
    The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) is sponsoring a number of Document Destruction (DDE) and Electronics Recycling Events during spring, summer and fall months. Since 1999, over 4.5 million pounds of electronics and approximately 858,000 pounds of paper have been recycled from one-day events. There is no cost to attend an event, but residents must live in one of SWANCC’s member communities to participate. IDs will be checked for proof of residency. Materials from businesses, institutions or schools will not be accepted.

    St. Viator was best represented in this year’s Class A all-star game at Sandburg in Orland Park on June 6 as Mike Julius, Dan O’Malley, Andrew Romano, Billy Spingola and Peter Trunk were selected to the team. O’Malley had a hat trick to lead the Black team, which was coached by St. Viator’s Bill Sanford, to a 16-8 victory over the White team.

    The Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 board of education approved one of two fund transfers Thursday so the district can pay for upcoming capital improvement projects with its reserves.the board agreed Thursday to transfer $6.1 million from the operations and maintenance fund to the capital projects fund to cover the renovations going on at Palatine High School this summer. Then, the board hopes to permanently transfer $15 million into the operations and maintenance fund from its education fund to fund all five swimming pool expansion projects.
