West Dundee church to host Spanish Art Songs concert Oct. 12

First Congregational Church of Dundee welcomes back guitarist Fareed Haque and soprano AnDréa James for a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.

The duo offered a recital at the church in 2015 and were very well received. They are back, collaborating on a new program of Spanish Art Songs. The concert will feature both traditional and new, original arrangements, these works are beautiful, touching and romantic.

A $10 suggested donation will be accepted at the door. Join them and bring some friends!

This program will include works by Sor, Granados (revised by Haque), and Obradors (arranged for guitar and voice for the first time ever by Haque).

Haque, whose ethnic heritage is Pakistani and Chilean, is a graduate of Northwestern University and, since 1989, has been on the music faculty of Northern Illinois University, where he teaches jazz and classical guitar.

Haque has performed and recorded with a virtual who's-who of the jazz and classical music worlds. Television appearances have included WTTW's "Art Beat" and "Chicago Tonight," "Ben Sidran's New Visions," his own "Lonesome Pines" special on PBS, and on BET cable jazz programs.

He is a multiple award winner from Downbeat Magazine, and in 2009 was voted Best World Guitarist by Guitar Player Magazine.

James completed her Master's Degree in Vocal Performance at Northern Illinois University, where she received the Outstanding Graduate Student award (2014-15) and was a winner of the NIU Philharmonic Concerto Competition (2015).

Over the past 10 years, she has held many different teaching, accompanying, conducting and directing positions at churches and schools, and is a member of the St. Charles Singers.
