Geneva Masonic Lodge 139 awards scholarships

In keeping with Masonic tradition, Geneva Masonic Lodge is pleased to announce that two students, Allyson Stoops and Daniel O'Conell, have received the 2018 William Burton Wood and David M. Wheeler Memorial Scholarship.

The William Burton Wood and David M. Wheeler Memorial Scholarship is an one-time award of $1,000 given each year to two high school seniors that are pursuing post-high school degrees in an accredited program.

It is granted each year in memory of William Burton Wood and David M. Wheeler who, in keeping with Masonic teachings, bequeathed the funds for this scholarship in the hope that their Masonic work during their lifetime would continue to support the community in their absence.

The scholarship was presented to the winners at the annual Past Masters' Dinner on Saturday, June 16. The dinner was open to the public and both recipients spoke that evening.

Geneva Masonic Lodge 139, located at 10 S. Second St. in Geneva, has been "Making Good Men Better" since 1852 - better brothers, husbands, fathers and citizens. Freemasonry is perhaps the oldest fraternity still active today. It was publicly organized in 1717 with the formation of the Grand Lodge of England and based upon traditions dating back to the late 14th century. Freemasonry does not publicly solicit for membership.
