Schaumburg Jaycees Made Their Presence Known in 2017

The Schaumburg Jaycees were presented awards honoring their achievements in 2017 at the Illinois Jaycees Year-end General Assembly on January 27, 2018. Awards for the trimester and year were presented at the year-end celebration in Decatur, Illinois.

For the last trimester of 2017 the chapter was given the Vice Presidents Cup, chosen by the state state to reflect overall achievements for chapters throughout the state each trimester. for their growth in the last part of the year Additionally, the chapter was recognized for Outstanding Membership growth in the last part of the year. The chapter was also recognized for several projects during the trimester. Their signature project, Christmas Giving Baskets, where items for holiday meals are provided to families of the township was recognized as an outstanding project in the Community Area of Opportunity. The annual Membership Booth at Septemberfest was awarded Runner Up Outstanding Membership Area Project for the trimester. The Region 3 Social which was hosted by the chapter at the Church Street Brewing Company in Itasca was awarded Runner Up Outstanding International Area Project. Concluding the trimester awards received was the most outstanding project in Business Area of Opportunity for their sponsorship of Church Street Brewing Company at the Septemberfest Craft Beer Booth.

Many year-end awards were also presented to the chapter. Member Christie Varga was recognized for her effort in leading an Outstanding Local Community Empowerment Program, Strikes for Sight held in April 2017 at Poplar Creek Bowl. This fundraiser raised over $2,000 for Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Ashley Curtis, who joined the chapter in April 2017, was recognized for Runner Up Rookie of the Year for willingness and ability to learn, lead and motivate within the first few months of being a member.

Chapter President, Dawn Stangle received the Robert L. Pleak award naming her the Outstanding Local President in Illinois for 2017. In addition to the individual members being recognized at the year end. The chapter was awarded second place in the Parade of Chapters competition, a program which tracks the progress of all chapters within Illinois. The Outstanding Membership Chapter in 2017 with a 23% growth rate and 80% retention rate of members throughout the year. Finally, the chapter was recognized to be the Most Outstanding Chapter in the State in their division (Division 1).

"The chapter worked hard to make its presence known within the community and organization in 2017," said Dawn Stangle, 2017 Schaumburg Jaycee President. "These awards encourage and remind us that our hard work, dedication and commitment to the community continue to make a difference."

Every year, the Schaumburg Jaycees serve the community and surrounding areas in several different ways. The chapter partners with the township and village at events, work with non-profit agencies to fund programming and provide support through projects serving a multitude of areas such as those serving in military, individuals with special needs, children, families, first responders and animals.

The Schaumburg Jaycees are a not-for-profit, community organization for young people aged 18 - 40 and are a chapter of the United States Junior Chamber. Committed to leadership development through community service, Jaycees volunteer time, raise funds for the community, provide professional development training and assist other community organizations. The mission is to contribute to the advancement of the community by providing the opportunity for young professionals to develop the leadership skills, social responsibility, fellowship, and entrepreneurship necessary to create positive change.
