Water Street Studios' exhibit to feature artists Diane Levesque, Anke Korioth

The Dempsey Family Gallery at Water Street Studios in Batavia will display the work created by two well-established artists, Diane Levesque and Anke Korioth.

Levesque's fanciful paintings combine reappearing motifs of opposites - the strange and beautiful, dark and light, uncanny and familiar. She says, "There is satisfaction that comes from understanding life complexities, enlarging our way of living and gaining insights into ourselves and the world we live in."

Anke's colorful mixed-media paintings integrate the chaos, connection and proximity absorbed from her travels around the world and her European roots. She said, "In my paintings I consider the relationships between abstraction and representation, exploring a fusion of both elements as I try to convey the essence of place through color, form and texture."

An opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9. In addition to viewing the work and meeting the artists who created it, there also will be small selection of appetizers by Gaetano's Batavia, a bar featuring beer from Solemn Oath Brewery and wine provided by Bright Angel wines. All proceeds from bar sales support arts programming at Water Street Studios.

The exhibit will continue until Sunday, March 4.

Upstairs at the Kane County Chronicle Gallery: Renowned Chicago artist Maureen Warren will be exhibiting a number of her paintings in the Kane County Chronicle Gallery, located on the second floor of Water Street Studios. Opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9.

The shows in both galleries will be on view during regular public gallery hours: 2 to 6 p.m. Friday; and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at 160 S. Water St. in Batavia.
