Highland Park Artists Exhibit Plein Air 'Medley' at the Adler Center

The David Adler Music and Arts Center celebrates the talents and long-standing friendship of three Highland Park artists this October.

Local artists Adrienne Aaronson, Jeff Orlove, and David Robbin present Medley, an exhibition featuring plein air paintings in multiple mediums. A free, public reception for the artists will be held on Sunday, October 15 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm.

Since 2010, the artists have shared studio space in Highland Park. "We paint together once a week, on Tuesdays," says David Robbin, who specializes in oil painting. "We have lunch, and then we paint."

"One of the hardest things is deciding what to paint," says Jeff Orlove, a retired architect. "For me, plein air is not just landscapes, it can also be architectural paintings done outside."

While the group regularly finds inspiration in the outdoors, they also learn from one another in their shared studio:

"Adrienne is a colorist. Jeff loves structures," says David Robbins.

"David is a master at techniques," says Orlove, "who handles details with sophistication."

"Yes, his rocks are deliciously rendered," adds Aaronson. "Because we've been painting together for such a long time, there's a trust. We can critique each other. That's where the trust comes in."

See Medley from October 9 - 30. The galleries, part of renowned architect David Adler's country estate, are open from 9am - 9pm Monday through Thursday and from 9am - 2pm each Saturday. Admission is free.
