Read to Learn Celebrates Make a Difference Day

Saturday, October 22 is the official Make a Difference Day - an annual community service event where people across the country come together to make a positive impact on their community. District 214 Community Education's Read to Learn Adult Literacy/Volunteer (RTL) participates in this event every year. With 11 classroom sites across the Northwest suburbs, Read to Learn volunteer tutors and English adult learners take part in this day over the span of two weeks. This year, some of Read to Learn sites have done the following in honor of Make a Difference Day:

• Collecting canned goods to donate to the local food pantry (Rolling Meadows High School and Mount Prospect Public Library sites)

• Donating coats (Elk Grove Village Public Library site)

• Collecting items for PHD - a women's counseling center that provides services for pregnant women and parents with children under the age of 3 (Prince of Peace and Schaumburg Township District Library sites)

• Collecting food and personal items for Wheeling Township Food Pantry (Wheeling High School site)
