Honors Bestowed on Woodland District 50 Schools

Woodland District 50 Schools received an Award of Excellence and three Awards of Merit recently in the Annual Communications Contest held by the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA).

More than 150 entries were submitted in an array of categories and the Award of Excellence plaque was given to former Public Information Specialist Jennifer Tempest Bova and District 50 in the Writing Category. Bova wrote an article for the Illinois School Board Journal about how Woodland students not only benefit from the breakfast program, but they also donate unopened juice, milk and food to the COOL Ministries food pantry based in Waukegan. Judges commented positively on use of the headline, "Benefits of Breakfast Program Extend Beyond Students," and the great use of quotes.

Awards of Merit were presented to Bova and District 50 for Facebook and Twitter posts as well as the Woodland Insider community newsletter. Associate Superintendent of Education Lori Casey accepted the awards at the Annual Communications Contest and Golden Achievement Awards Luncheon held in Oak Brook. Bova is now Communications Manager for Des Plaines District 62.

The mission of INSPRA is to strengthen support for Illinois public schools and improve education for students through responsible public relations. Workshops and programs are held throughout the year for members to learn and grow in their craft.

Judging this year's entries were National School Public Relations Association members from Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin.
