Prospect Hts. police detective honored for saving Arlington Hts. officer

Prospect Heights Police Detective Sgt. Mark Porlier was presented with a Life Saving Commendation on March 28 by Arlington Heights Deputy Chief Andrew Whowell and Commander Nathan Hayes - for saving the life of an Arlington Heights officer. While on assignment with the Major Case Assistance Team in Arlington Heights, Porlier, and Investigator McIntyre of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, revived the unconscious officer and saved his life with CPR. The officer is now recovering. Porlier, a 22-year veteran officer, was honored in front of the Prospect Heights City Council.

• Streamwood resident and Northern Illinois Scholarship Program Ambassador Queen of Queens 2016 Arielle Christopher, 17, kicked off the Lord & Taylor Prom 2016 Fashion Show held March 5, at Lord & Taylor, in Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg. Christopher opened the show wearing Lord & Taylor's Prom 2016 "showcase dress" by Mac Duggal - a blush lace sequined bodice dress with feather skirt in off-white. The Mac Duggal gown is featured on the cover of the Lord & Taylor Prom 2016 catalog. The fashion show was part of a prom fashions presentation which also included jewelry, cosmetics, evening shoes, music and free food.

Meg Stangel signed a letter of intent on March 1, to play for the Oakton Owls, Oakton Community College's volleyball team. Meg, the fourth of six Stangel children, is a senior at The Willows Academy, Des Plaines, a Catholic school for girls in grades six-12. Oakton College Athletic Director Bruce Oates and Volleyball Coach Vincent Miranda were on hand to celebrate along with Meg's mom, Katie Stangel and The Willows Academy Athletic Director Amy McMahon.

• Daniel Ambrose of Crystal Lake joined Northwestern College as chief financial officer. Ambrose, who will be based at the college's Rosemont administrative offices, will oversee the 114-year-old institution's financial well-being in all areas of operation. He comes to the college with a 27-year career as a financial professional; the last 13 specializing in the higher education industry. Ambrose earned his CPA in Illinois and is a graduate of Loyola University, Chicago.

• U.S. Army Spc. Karl A. Lingner, son of June Linger of Mount Prospect, graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. During the nine weeks of training, Lingner studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values; physical fitness; and received instruction in basic combat skills, weapons, chemical warfare and more. He is a 2015 graduate of John Hersey High School, Arlington Heights.
