Gordmans in Algonquin to close
A favorite spot along the Randall Road corridor for shoppers to get fashionable clothes and accessories at lower prices is closing.
Gordmans, 1500 S. Randall Road in Algonquin, is going out of business.
Many found out about the store's closing when they saw workers standing on street corners along Randall Road with signs announcing discount sales. The store also recently put up a banner on its building announcing its closing.
The Algonquin Gordmans location is the only one along the Randall Road corridor, and was the closest store for people throughout the Fox Valley area.
While there are Gordmans locations throughout the United States and in central and southern Illinois, the only other spots in the Chicago area are Vernon Hills and Naperville.
Tracie Wickenhauser, senior vice president of stores for Gordmans, says those stores will remain open.
"After assessing options, Gordmans is planning to close its store in Algonquin," Wickenhauser said. "In the Chicago area, Gordmans will continue to operate stores in Vernon Hills at Rivertree Court and in Naperville on Aurora Avenue for our guests who enjoy Gordmans' incredible value in a wide array of merchandise."
Gordmans did not respond to additional questions on why it was leaving the Randall Road corridor or on its estimated closing date.
However, Kim Gilmore, whose company does marketing for Algonquin Commons, says the store is expected to close by Oct. 31.
American Girls
Williams-Sonoma along the Randall Road corridor in Geneva is teaming up with American Girl to host a cooking class for kids this weekend.
The class, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, and costs $30, will teach kids to fill their lunchboxes with delicious treats.
Kids will make bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato sandwiches; turkey cranberry sandwiches; veggies with buttermilk ranch dip; and lemony-berry bars.

Fashion fun
Chico's, along the Randall Road corridor in Algonquin, will host a Fall Fashion Show Thursday, Sept. 17, from noon to 3 p.m. It will feature the latest fashions at the store, 1960 S. Randall Road.
The store also will have a Mary Kay consultant on hand to offer makeup tips, as well as a hand masseuse to help make your shopping experience more relaxing.
There also will be light refreshments and everyone who attends will be entered into a raffle drawing.
