AquaSprites qualify for Junior Olympic Championship

The AquaSprites Synchronized Swim Team, Lattof YMCA, will attend the 2015 U.S. Synchronized Swimming Junior Olympic in Greensboro, North Carolina, June 26 through July 4.

Six age group routines advanced from the North Zone, Region B, championships held in St. Louis, Missouri, May 16-17. The top solo in each age group advances; the top three per age group advance in duet and team.

First place 11-12 solo: Ema Glavinovic, Des Plaines; first place 18-19 solo: Alexandra Boudko, Wadsworth; second place 13-15 solo: Katie Kenny, Mount Prospect; third place 18-19 solo: Megan Moyer, Barrington.

First place 11-12 duet: Alexandra Dorula, Prospect Heights, and Alice Duska, Chicago; second place 11-12 duet: Anita Mihaylova, Mount Prospect, and Chaewon Park, Mount Prospect; second place 16-17 duet: Barbara Garcia Stam, Libertyville, and Alice Kenny, Mount Prospect; fourth place 18-19 duet: Alexandra Boudko, Wadsworth, and Jenna Gudritz, Mount Prospect; seventh place 13-15 duet: Rebecca Garcia Stam, Libertyville, and Olivia Vasilakopoulos, Park Ridge; seventh place 18-19 duet: Megan Moyer, Barrington, and Christina Chase, Schaumberg.

Competing in 13-15 team, Ema Glavanovic, Alexandra Dorula, Alice Duska, Anita Mihaylova, Chaewon Park, Christina Chase, Rebecca Garcia Stam, and Olivia Vasilakopoulos received third-place medals and a trip to the Junior Olympic Championship.

The AquaSprites also sent two intermediate routines to regional competition and both placed first in their event. Melanie Angelov, Mount Prospect, first in 10 and under solo, along with teammates Simona Beltowski of Mount Prospect, Michelle Kneznik of Indian Head Park and Elizabeth Sokolov of Deerfield, placed first in 13-15 Intermediate team.

The AquaSprites Summer team is open to those ages 6-18 who can swim a length of the pool. Summer practices are 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 6-7 p.m. Thursdays at Lattof YMCA, 300 E Northwest Hwy., in Des Plaines.
