Refuge for Women Fundraiser To Help Launch Chicago-area Safe House

The launch of a new safe house for exploited women will be celebrated with a free reception featuring live music and gourmet desserts from 7:30-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24 at Church of the Resurrection, 935 W. Union Ave., Wheaton. The safe house will be operated by Refuge for Women, a faith-based organization that helps restore exploited and trafficked Chicago-area women. Congressman Peter Roskam and FBI Supervisory Special Agent Vick Lombardo will answer the question, "What do you hope our guests take away regarding Chicago area human trafficking?" Additionally, Ked Frank, Founder and Director of Refuge for Women, will discuss operation plans for the new Chicago safe house and strategies to help victims of the sex trade find healing and a better life.

"Refuge for women has been providing long-term housing and recovery for over four years in Kentucky, and I'm excited that doors will soon open for a local safe house in the Chicago vicinity," said Frank. "We encourage anyone who cares about human trafficking and exploitation to join us and learn more about the plans and how this ministry will unfold. Expect to be inspired, informed, and encouraged to get involved."

According to the Illinois Department of Health and Human Services, an estimated minimum of 16,000-25,000 women and girls are victims of commercial sexual exploitation in Chicago every year. Refuge for Women's efforts includes a 12-month, three-phase program that begins with relocating these victims to a safe house designed to help guests heal and feel protected.
