Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center Seeks 80 Volunteers

The Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center (GECRC) is seeking volunteer tutors and classroom helpers for its 2014-2015 after school program. The Resource Center's mission is to provide literacy and life skills support to children living in low-income households in Glen Ellyn.

The GECRC provides tutoring in all academic subjects for students grades K-8. Founded in 2002, the program serves over 80 children from low-income families each year. Nearly two-thirds of the students are immigrants and refugees, representing families from North America, Asia and Africa.

Tutoring takes place Monday thru Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Glen Ellyn. Each volunteer picks one day a week to come in to help with homework and other academic activities. The GECRC staff provides all materials tutors need to work on age appropriate homework and literacy assistance as well as games and activities geared toward educational development. If you cannot commit to once a week, there are other options to help.

If you are interested in changing a child's world by committing one hour a week, please contact volunteer@gecrc.org or call 630-479-9919. Further information is available on our website, www.gecrc.org.
