Round Lake Beach teen receives Eagle Scout Award

Samuel Elliot Dummer, son of David and Kay Dummer of Round Lake Beach, has been awarded the highest advancement award in the Boy Scouts of America, the Eagle Scout Award.

His accomplishment was celebrated Saturday, Aug. 16, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Lindenhurst.

Dummer is a member of Troop 87, chartered by Millburn UCC, in Lake Villa.

Over the years, he has held many troop leadership positions, including Senior Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.

Among other requirements, a candidate for the Eagle rank "must plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community." Dummer's project was a flagstone path up to and around the flagpole at Palombi Middle School in Lake Villa.

In 2011, Dummer received the BSA's National Certificate of Merit for his assistance when his neighbor's house caught fire. In 2014, he was honored with Vigil honor, the highest honor in The Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society.

Dummer graduated from Grayslake North High school in 2014 and is now a freshman at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. He is a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Lindenhurst.
