Bloomingdale/Roselle Rotary Club Donates Supplies for Needy Students

The Rotary Club of Bloomingdale/ Roselle recently purchased and donated school supplies for impoverished local children served by the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) of DuPage County. The supplies will reach local children served by HSP's School Supply Drive program which provides supplies to over 3200 needy children throughout DuPage and Kane. These supplies will be distributed directly to schools with large populations of students living below the poverty line. The club also donated an additional $100 to support HSP's programs.

The Rotary Club of Bloomingdale-Roselle is a community and service group that helps sponsor and run many community events. In addition to HSP the club also supports Family Shelter Services, Youth Back-To-School school supplies, Bloomingdale Food Pantry, Adopt-A-Highway, Stepping Stones for Women of Domestic Violence, and many other local projects. They have been in operation since 1996, and meet every Tuesday at 12:15 PM at Spavone's Restaurant 266 W. Lake St. Bloomingdale, IL 60108. The current club president is John Binneboese. The Rotary Club of Bloomingdale-Roselle have supported HSP for the past 15 years through volunteering and donations.

The Humanitarian Service Project's School Supply Drive asks individuals, businesses, and groups around the DuPage and Kane County area to donate notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, etc. for children that can't afford back to school necessities. Through this program HSP supported the DuPage Regional Office of Education's Back to School Fair on August 6th, and Kane County's Project Backpack on August 9th. The School Supply Drive will continue its operation through the end of summer and early fall collecting supplies to send to local area schools with high levels of needy students.

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 840 families with 1,600 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, bread, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides monthly food deliveries of 100 pounds including fresh produce, frozen meats, bread, non-perishables, paper products and secret pal gifts to 123 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 925 children. Feed the Kids program provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce worth $1,500 retail in total for the summer. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
