A Prospect Heights mother and her son pleaded guilty to stealing merchandise from TJ Maxx stores in Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect and Chicago.

Originally charged with a "continuing financial crimes enterprise," Maria G. Kraszynska, 64, and her son, Christopher A. Krasznski-Morrar, 23, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor retail theft Thursday, prosecutors said.

The pair were sentenced to two years conditional discharge. Additionally, the judge ordered them to pay restitution.

According to police, the defendants purchased high-end jewelry from the stores and returned inferior or less expensive jewelry in its place, pocketing the difference. The thefts took place between October 2013 and March 2014 and were recorded by store surveillance cameras, police said.
