Learn about Good Templar at Elgin Kiwanis meeting

On Tuesday, July 22, Pat Hanson of the Geneva Chapter of the Good Templar Organization, will present a history of Swedes in central Kane County at the weekly Kiwanis Club of Elgin meeting.

Topical programs are fixtures of the weekly meetings of the Kiwanis Club of Elgin. Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to attend a weekly lunch meeting, held at noon Tuesdays at The Hickory Stick Bar & Grille Restaurant, 875 Sports Way, Elgin, at the Highlands golf course. On July 29, George Rawlinson, owner of State Street Publishing, will present an overview of the book titled "Good-bye, Elgin High" and discuss its genesis and creation, as well as introduce the author, Mike Bailey.

On Aug. 5, members and guests will have the opportunity to meet state Sen. Karen McConnaughay, representing the 33rd State Senate District, as she discusses her new role and provides a Springfield update.

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin, now in its 94th year, received its charter March 9, 1920, and serves the Kiwanis International mission, to change the world one child at a time, one community at a time. In that time, the Elgin noon club donated over one million dollars to organizations in Elgin and South Elgin.
