Brentwood North Receives New Post-Acute Accreditation

Riverwoods, May 2, 2014: Today Joint Commission announced Post-Acute Accreditation for Brentwood North Healthcare Center. In 2013, Joint Commission introduced optional certification programs, as an add-on to basic accreditation for skilled nursing facilities., which would recognize nursing home strengths in specific areas. The first certification option, along with the newly revised accreditation standards, recognizes facilities that provide advanced rehabilitation services. Brentwood North Healthcare Center renewed their JCAHO accreditation that included new standards for patient centered care, while obtaining Accreditation for Post-Acute Care.

Accredited nursing homes report a stronger resident safety culture than those facilities not accredited. Brentwood North Healthcare Center provides positive influence in regards to patient safety issues such as staffing, teamwork, communication, training and education. "Achieving Post-Acute Care Certification is a major step towards maintaining excellence in complex nursing care, rehabilitation and other services to our short term and long term residents. We are invested in quality on a daily basis and now have the framework in place to take our facility to the next level of excellence," states Administrator, Phil Thompson.

In 2013, the Joint Commission Accreditation advanced to a new name, Nursing Care Center Accreditation. It replaced the previous Long Term Care Accreditation program and, in addition announced the first certification option for Post-Acute Certification. Accredited organizations that achieve this optional certification are evaluated on their capacity to care for patients with medically complex needs who are receiving post-acute services.

The Glen Healthcare Network presently has three skilled nursing facilities that have obtained Post-Acute Certification, GlenLake Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Glen Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre and Brentwood North Healthcare Center.
