A wine and chocolate gala is being planned to celebrate the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn's 60th year of providing service to the community, especially the children of the community. The event will be held at the Raintree Clubhouse from 7P to 9P on Thursday, May 22nd.

In conjunction with the celebration the club will be raising funds for the Kiwanis Worldwide Project which is to eliminate the scourge of Maternal Neo-natal Tetanus from the face of the earth. In many places in the world, there are primitive birthing practice and a baby dies every nine minutes from tetanus that is contracted at birth. An immunization for mothers costing $1.80 can prevent her babies from contracting this fatal condition. By partnering with UNICEF, Maternal Neo-Natal tetanus has already been eliminated in 32 countries, but there are 24 more countries where this is still a major cause of infant death.

The gala evening will be filled with wine and chocolate treats, a chance to bid on silent auction items and the chance to meet a three time World Champion US Paralympian. Melissa Stockwell, an Iraqi veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, has overcome the loss of her leg while on active duty and become a world champion in the triathlon. She has a very inspirational and motivating message to share with us.

The ticket price is $35 per person. A donation to the eliminate project can also be made if you are unable to attend. Other ways of supporting the club's efforts would be thru donation of a silent auction item or placing an ad in the 60th Anniversary booklet.
