Images from Sochi as BG Olympian arrives

With the Opening Ceremonies just two days away, Buffalo Grove Olympian Megan Bozek is getting her first look at the host city of Sochi, Russia, and she sent images to her family and friends to document her safe arrival.

Bozek is a member of the U.S. women's hockey team, which is favored to contend for a medal at the 2014 Games. Team USA departed for Sochi last Saturday and opens its Olympic run with a game against Finland on Saturday, followed by a context next week against rival Canada.

“First practice under our belts!” Bozek posted on Twitter with picture taken Monday of the colorful Bolshoy Ice Arena, which will be home to most of the men's hockey games.

Although this will be her first Olympics, Bozek, 22, has won youth hockey state titles in Illinois, one high school girls championship, and two NCAA championships with the University of Minnesota. As a member of Team USA, she also has earned two world championships and scored a goal in beating Canada 3-2 last year at the 2013 World Championships.

The opening ceremony is Friday and the Winter Olympics run through Feb. 23, and you can follow her on Twitter@meganebozek and at www.facebook.com/megan.bozek.5.
