Cardiac Surgeon Joins Northwestern Lake Forest

Cardiac surgeon Hyde Russell, MD, has joined the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. Russell is a cardiac surgeon at both Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and is the surgical director for the Program for Adult Congenital Heart Disease at the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute. Russell sees patients at the Bluhm clinic at 800 N. Westmoreland Road, Suite 102, in Lake Forest, and performs surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Russell's special interests include adult and pediatric congenital heart surgery, complex reoperations in congenital heart surgery, heart transplantation, valve repair and replacement, and coronary artery surgery. An assistant professor of Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Russell has been inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

McCarthy, MD, chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and director of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, ranked among the top 20 cardiology and heart surgery program in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. "Not only is Dr. Russell a skilled technical surgeon in all aspects of heart surgery, but I've been impressed at how comfortable patients and family members feel under his care. A graduate of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Russell completed his internship as well as his general surgery residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals. He completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and served two years as a post-doctoral research fellow in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of California-Los Angeles. He completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery from Northwestern Memorial Hospital and cardiovascular-thoracic surgery from Children's Memorial Hospital. Russell is board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery.
