Travel back to a holiday season in 1880s Schaumburg.

Schaumburg Park District's Christmas in the Valley, sponsored by Whole Foods Market, will be held from noon to 4 p.m., Dec. 7 and 8 at Volkening Heritage Farm and Merkle Log Cabin at Spring Valley, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

Visitors will see how German American farm families in 19th century Schaumburg celebrated Christmas with traditional foods, simple home-made gifts and a continuation of their daily farm chores. Visitors also will meet a traditional St. Nicholas and enjoy a cup of soup by the fireplace at the log cabin. Event will include refreshments, holiday treats, cookie decorating for kids and craft activities. Hot drinks and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Admission is $2 per person or $8 per family of six or fewer. Additional family members are $2 each. Children ages 3 and younger are free.

Parking is available at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Shuttle bus transportation will be provided to Heritage Farm.
