Kepski, Carmel handle Fenwick

Sierra Kepski came up big for Carmel Catholic’s girls volleyball team Tuesday night.

Kepski registered 10 digs and 3 aces, as the Corsairs defeated Fenwick 25-18, 25-15 to improve to 15-2 overall and 2-0 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

“The highlight for the night for Carmel was little Sierra Kepski,” Corsairs coach David Pazely said.

With Carmel trailing 15-9 in the second set, Kepski served 16 points in a row to end the night.

“The last serve clipped the tape and dripped over,” Pazely said. “Throughout those 16 points our defense played very well and we frustrated Fenwick’s hitters.”

Carmel setter Alyssa Armada totaled 19 assists, 5 kills, 2 digs and 1 block, while Grace Schofield (7 kills) and Ellie Rengers (5 kills, 3 blocks) were huge factors at the net. Morgan Meade (3 kills), Grace Butler (3 kills, 1 block), Allie Wayland (1 kill), Shauna Meagher (20 digs), Elizabeth Tworek (11 digs) and Lauren Fournier (9 digs) also contributed to the win.

“Our team picked things up a notch for this conference matchup,” Pazely said. “Our middles set the tone early with some great kills, which opened things up for our pin hitters to get some one-on-one matchups, which we took advantage of. Alyssa did another great job spreading the ball around to our hitters and picking the defense apart when they weren’t ready.”

Carmel hosts powerhouse Joliet Catholic on Thursday.

Libertyville d. Glenbrook North: Alex Basler and Rhiannon Prentiss each had 7 kills for the Wildcats in their 25-20, 30-28 nonconference win.

Lizzie Apgar and Cassie Ostmeyer dished out 11 and 10 assists, respectively, while Morgan O’Brien chalked up 22 digs.

Grayslake Central d. Hampshire: Alex Dahlstrom’s 12 kills and 3 blocks paced the Rams, who won the Fox Valley Fox match 27-25, 25-15.

Grayslake Central (16-6, 3-2) also received 4 kills and 10 digs from Gabi Casper. Hayley Peterson dished out 22 assists, and Teresa Curtis recorded 17 digs.
