Spring Valley to host free mythology program Sept. 4

Water monsters, Thunderbirds and Mishipeshu, oh my!

Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, will host the free Water Monsters and Thunderbirds: Stalking the Mythological Wildlife of Our Region program at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 4. Visitors will learn how myths and stories explain relationships humans have with their environment.

Judy Speer, co-founder of Small Waters Education in McHenry County, will share her knowledge on tracking the connections between Native American legends, ancient earthworks and the region’s landscape. During her presentation, the audience will hear this fascinating look into the stories that underlay our Midwestern landscape and its history.
