This will only work if we all comply

Changes are being made to the path around Lake Arlington so cyclists and skaters are to move around the lake in a counterclockwise direction on the outside of the path while pedestrians (walkers, joggers, etc.) are to move around the lake in a clockwise direction on the inner part of the path.

It will be interesting to see how well these new rules are obeyed. Last week while park district employees were painting and parts of the path were blocked off with barricades and yellow tape, a skater simply lifted the tape and rolled on through while the employees hollered at him. Thanks, Mr. Skater, for being so considerate.

Then, on Monday, July 29, while I was jogging, I counted six persons, all pedestrians, moving in the wrong direction. The cyclists were following the new markings.

The markings are large and very clear. None of those pedestrians had a white cane or service dog so I know they could see the markings. Again, thanks for being so considerate.

If this new system is going to work we ALL need to follow the rules. These lane changes are a simple fix that can work. Let’s be sure they do work!
