Free meteor party planned for Aug. 10 at Spring Valley

There's no party like a star-studded meteor party!

Families can see the sky come to life at the free Perseid Meteor Party from 9 to 11 p.m., Aug. 10 at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Telescopes will be set up just south of the Nature Center to help participants view distant objects in the summer sky while watching for “falling stars.” Interpreters will be on hand to guide gazers through the Summer Triangle, falling stars, planets, constellations and satellites.

“Children will frost star-shaped cookies to celebrate the evening,” said Mary Rice, environmental education coordinator for Spring Valley. “The event is a great way to relax and enjoy the prairie.”

Star-related activities and crafts will also take place in and around the Nature Center throughout the evening.

Families are encouraged to bring their own blanket and folding chair.
