Daily Herald staff report

Friends and family members are hosting the second annual Coach Ron Gummerson Summer Track Meet at Conant High School, 700 E. Cougar Trail in Hoffman Estates, on Thursday, July 25. Gummerson was a longtime teacher and track and field coach at the high school who died in 2011. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by an all-ages clinic at 5:15 p.m. and running and field events at 5:45 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 and younger.

There will be multiple running events, along with long jump and shot put. A special alumni 1600-meter run will also be held to celebrate 50 years of Conant cross country and track and field. Alumni are encouraged to wear their old Cougar gear.

Money raised at the event will be used for scholarships that will be awarded to two high school senior track athletes. To make a tax deductible donation, make checks payable to High School District 211 Foundation, 1750 S. Roselle Road in Palatine, and mention "Ron Gummerson Scholarship Fund" in the memo section.
