Schaumburg Park board recognizes Schaumburg Park Foundation at June meeting

The Schaumburg Park District Board of Commissioners honored the Schaumburg Park Foundation for being an outstanding partner of the District at the June 13 Park Board Meeting at the Jerry Handlon Administration Building, 235 E. Beech Drive.

The Schaumburg Park Foundation, since 1981, has been dedicated to providing resources for the preservation of open space, conservation, nature and recreation. The nonprofit organization also supports access to recreation programs through scholarships for disadvantaged youth of the community.

The Foundation has made a positive impact on the community by raising funds to support many Park District initiatives including Volkening Heritage Farm at Spring Valley, Ken Alley Safety Park, the special needs playground at the Community Recreation Center, the purchase of a community day coach and most recently a successful campaign to raise $150,000 for enhancement and renovation of the Nature Museum at Spring Valley Nature Center.

Schaumburg Park District Park Board meets at 7:30 p.m. the second Thursday of every month at the Jerry Handlon Administration Building. The District will honor an organization each month during its fiftieth anniversary. The July 11 meeting will honor the Schaumburg Garden Club and Schaumburg Area Photographic Society.
