14 cows wander into Lindenhurst subdivision

Fourteen cows wandered from their farm in Antioch Township and ended up two miles away munching on a Lindenhurst subdivision garden.

The News-Sun in Waukegan reported that more than two dozen Lindenhurst residents and police herded the cows into a trailer on Thursday. The cows were taken back to the Doolittle Farm in Antioch Township.

The animals managed to tip over a bird bath and trample a decorative fence while they were on the loose.

Police said they first learned about the cows when a resident called to say one was eating her bushes. Another resident said one of the cows munched on her apple tree.

Cmdr. Joe Moravec said being asked to rustle up cows is “definitely in the top ten” of weird police calls.
