Highland Park High School Swings Into Jazz Night

You are invited to the Highland Park High School's “Jazz Night” featuring the HPHS Jazz Ensemble on Thursday, May 9, at 7:00 pm at the ‘Jazz Club' located in the Main Auditorium at Highland Park High School.

The special guest artist is Fernando Jones, famed American Bluesman, educator, and songwriter. Mr. Jones is a native of Chicago and performs nationally and internationally promoting American jazz and particularly the blues. He recently performed at Opening Night as part of Focus on the Arts. Jones is director of the Blues Ensemble at Columbia College and is the founder of BluesKids, an organization introducing the blues to the youth of Chicago.

The Edgewood and Elm Place Middle School Jazz Bands under the direction of Evan Canel and Matt Taylor will also perform on the concert. The HPHS Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr, James Hile, will perform music from the library of the great Stan Kenton Orchestra and will pay tribute to the late Dave Brubek. Some jazz favorites will also be included in the program such as Glenn Miller's “In the Mood” and Benny Goodman's “Sing, Sing, Sing.”

Join us in this special evening celebrating jazz, America's true art form. Admission is free.
