Cherry, Glenbard North defeat Bartlett
Lindsey Cherry scattered 8 hits and struck out four, and No. 5 Glenbard North rallied past Bartlett 4-1 on Monday in Carol Stream.
Heather Sperlazzo was 2-for-2 with a double, 2 walks and a run scored and Ashley Stiver 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, walk and run scored for Glenbard North (3-0), which spotted Bartlett a 1-0 lead after an inning but scored 2 runs in the fourth and 2 more in the sixth. Stephanie Campos and Cece Dopart each drove in a run.
Naperville Central 6, Hinsdale South 2:
Keegan Hayes fired a 1-hitter, striking out six with 5 walks and the No. 11 Redhawks pounded out 11 hits in their season opener. Maddi Doane was 3-for-5 with a triple, Hayes, Courtney Giebel and Lisa Tassi were 2-for-4 and Kaitlyn Skarecky and Lindsey Gonzalez each had 2 RBI for Naperville Central.
Downers Grove North 11, WW South 0:
Elaine Heflin struck out 12, coming an out away from a no-hitter in the No. 7 Trojans' five-inning win in Downers Grove. Heflin (3-0) has struck out 44 batters in 19 innings with 1 earned run thus far this season. Carolyn Nojiri was 3-for-3 and Ali Woitovich homered for Downers Grove North (3-1).
Fenton 19, Proviso West 1:
Dana Fritz and Jocelyn Souvannasy combined on a no-hitter for the Bison (5-0). Hannah Wassmann went 3-for-3 with 4 runs scored, 2 RBI, 2 doubles and 6 stolen bases and Nicole Susmarski was 2-for-3 with a homer, 4 runs scored and 4 RBI.
IC Catholic Prep 8, Queen of Peace 5:
Winning pitcher Jessica Conenna was 4-for-5 with an RBI, Gabby Curran 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Lindsey Montoya 3-for-4 with an RBI for IC (3-1), which pounded out 18 hits in Burbank. Brenna Langan added 2 singles.
Fenwick 6, York 4:
The Dukes (0-4) dug a 5-0 hole and couldn't recover at Fenwick. Angela Scalzitti was 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base and drove in York's first run in the fifth inning. Hannah Latimer was 2-for-3 and scored twice and Taylor Pankau drove in a run and scored once.
