President and Mrs. Lincoln Visit St. James School

Arlington Heights, IL. February 5, 2013—St. James School students had the pleasure of receiving President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln to celebrate the President's upcoming birthday on February 12. President and Mrs. Lincoln spoke of their experiences in Illinois as Lincoln grew as a political figure. They shared their innermost thoughts as they suffered the decision-making regarding the Civil War.

Students were quite taken by the visit from the President and his wife. “They told interesting stories about their children,” remarked third-grader, Grace Stephens. “I could tell Mrs. Lincoln was very emotional because she waved her fan a lot!” added classmate, Lia Myers. Jimmy Zafiris, another third grade, was able to answer Mr. Lincoln's query regarding his image on a penny! Jimmy realized that Lincoln faces the opposite direction from other presidential images on coins. Lincoln explained that this was due to the U.S fighting a civil war during his presidency.

The Parents” Club of St. James School sponsored this presentation by With Lincoln Productions in a series of Cultural Arts programs provided throughout the school year.
