Dundee-Crown never had a chance.

Spearheaded by a 16-0 run to start the second quarter, Hononegah was able to cruise past the host Chargers 65-27 in action at the Dundee-Crown Girls Thanksgiving Tournament in Carpentersville Tuesday night.

Holding a 17-9 lead after one quarter, the Indians made 6 consecutive shots to start the quarter including 4 3-pointers to extend an 8-point first quarter lead to 33-9 with 4:33 left before the intermission. Hannah Rehfeldt connected on a pair of 3-pointers and Caila Petrie and Haley Kershner each buried a shot from beyond the arc as Hononegah seized control of the game.

"They came out of the gate fast and we didn't handle their quickness or press very well," said D-C coach Michelle Russell. "It was a good challenge for the kids. They are a very solid team."

Hononegah coach Randy Weibel liked the way his team bounced back from Saturday's loss to Palatine.

"We let Palatine dictate tempo on Saturday," said the Indians coach. "Tonight, we dictated tempo and came out with a lot of energy. Dundee-Crown played Palatine tough so we knew it would be a tough game. It was a good effort tonight, but we have a long way to go."

Hononegah (3-1), which made 8-of-16 from 3-point land, held its biggest lead of the game at 40 points, 60-20, with 4:58 remaining after a 3 pointer from Kershner.

The Indians, who forced 26 D-C (0-4) turnovers, were led by Kershner with 10 points. Rehfeldt and Tiana Thomas added 9 apiece for the winners.

Jereneka Baker paced D-C with 8 points while Frankie Cavallaro delivered a pair of 3-pointers for 6 points.

"We just need to play smarter, but I like the effort," said Russell. "We are improving every game and it is good to play good teams early in the season to see where we are as a team."
