Mead Jr. High kicks off fundraiser for Diabetes Walk

On Oct. 4, the students and staff of Mead Junior High School kicked off a new fundraiser: the Mead Diabetes Walk. The funds raised through this event will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to support finding a cure.

All of the funds raised at Mead will be given to some of Mead's students with diabetes who are participating in Ron Santo's Walk to Cure Diabetes this month. The students will donate the Mead funds as well as any funds they have raised on their own.

A school-wide assembly held today, Oct. 4, included inspirational messages from four current Mead parents and four current Mead students who have been diagnosed with diabetes sharing their own personal experiences with diabetes. The school set a goal of raising $10,000.

All next week, students will donate the money they've raised and hear inspirational stories in their classes. The seven days of fundraising will conclude with the walk itself on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The walk will take about an hour and will include entertainment and snacks provided by Mead's PTA.

Anyone who would like to support the Mead Diabetes Walk with a monetary donation can send cash or check (made payable to Mead Junior High School, Diabetes Walk in the memo line) to 1765 Biesterfield Road, Elk Grove Village, Ill. 60007.
